About

The Arts and Culture Center (Küste) is a hub for cultural exchange where people from all walks of life can gather while carrying on the historical and cultural atmosphere of Katsuura City.

As you enter through the main doors, an expansive entrance unfolds before you, providing a place of relaxation where local residents and other users and visitors can feel safe and comfortable. The Hall has a maximum capacity of 826 and can be used for a wide range of events, including music and dance recitals, traditional performing arts such as rakugo and dance, and other local cultural events. The movable seats can also be retracted, making the Hall ideal for large orchestra and brass band rehearsals, ballroom dancing, and other types of events.

The Conference Room is equipped with a screen, monitor, and sound equipment, and can be used for various purposes, including lectures, meetings, receptions, workshops, and exhibitions. The Multipurpose Room has soundproofing and one mirrored wall, and be used for music and dance practices, rehearsals and small recitals.

The Cooking Room can be used for creative activities and workshops, as well as a kitchen for catering services at other facilities within the center. The Tatami Room can be used for club activities and other group workshops, etc.

In addition, the Katsuura, Fusano, Okitsu, and Ueno Community Halls are scattered throughout the city, providing facilities where people can gather for cultural events, meetings, club activities and other occasions to create a comfortable and healthy local community.

The Arts and Culture Center (Küste), together with community halls, fulfill a function as places for cultural exchange in Katsuura City, and play a role in maintaining and developing the city's living history and culture.

Küste
and the Logo Design

The nickname "Küste" means "coast" or "seaside" in German.
With a fishing port that boasts one of the largest catches unloaded in Japan and a swimming beach to which visitors flock during the summer tourist season, the sea is a symbolic presence for Katsuura City.

The glass walls on the first floor are a distinctive feature of the building's exterior and are designed to resemble the ocean, and the brick louvers on the second floor (laid in a spiral pattern) are reminiscent of a sandy beach. Together, the entire building creates a "seaside" atmosphere, from which the nickname "Küste" is derived.
Also, the "ü" (with an umlaut) looks like a person smiling or two people shaking hands. This fits perfectly with the image of the center as a "place for exchange," and so "Küste" has become a popular name among locals.

Given that "Küste" means "coast" or "seaside" in German, the logo is based on the color blue, and has a soft, rounded design that contrasts with the angular design of the building.
The letter ü in "Küste" was designed with the image of a smiling face and people shaking hands and interacting with each other----an image that perfectly suits the center.

The logo will also be painted on the entrance and east wall of the building, but in dark gray instead of blue to match the exterior of the building.
